Youth participation in local government and sustainable urban planning

Happy European Youth Week!

A year ago, CAAC Coordinator, Tamara Guirao, toghether with Samuel Baylet, trainee, developed a model to facilitate youth participation in local policies, contributing to the discussion on the TONETA project. It seems interesting to recall it today, taking into account that these ideas will be again put on the table during CAAC General Assembly in Saint Nazaire. This event will also launch an online forum for citizens discussion, coordinated by Saint Nazaire Agglomeration. Wanna participate?

Toneta Project

The importance of youth participation in local government is a key dimension of the succes of sustainable urban planning. It allows young people and urban citizens  taking ownership of the city strategy, thus  creating bottom-up implementation and mobilizing local ressources. Encouraging youth participation in local policy should focus on empowering young people,  inviting policy makers to share decision with young people so as to reach youth mainstreaming.

Toneta examines Youth and its possibilities for networking. Intense exchange among the different stakeholders involved in the project so as to prepare the meeting showing  the importance of youth policies as a result of synergies that can be enhanced through town twinning and networking.

Building on the results of the Cabuenes-meeting, TONETA partnership has drafted a “SUD Plan” that involves a strong youth participation dimension.
