Last January 15th, Tamara Guirao, CAAC coordinator, was invited to participate in the working group on the Atlantic Strategy of the Atlantic Arc Commission. The cities network, CAAC and this late organization have been twinned since 2004 and from them have been tightly working together in order to attract the attention of the EU institutions towards the Atlantic Area.
The Atlantic Strategy is the practical demonstration of the achievements related to this collaboration. The joint lobby strategy of both Atlantic Territories’ Networks gave birth in 2010 to a EU Council Decision putting the Atlantic Arc back in Europe’s map.
The meeting was in Brussels and it examined the standing point of the discussions around the Atlantic Forum after the first three meetings (Açores, Brest and Bilbao) and how to prepare the following ones (Cardif and Cork).
The meeting also raised the question of creating a support platform for the Atlantic Strategy, where all the levels of governance should have a role and where the Atlantic Networks can bring forward their knowledge of the ground.
